Join us for the inaugural Meeting of the PMI-DVC Academic Council! When: Thursday, April 8, 2021, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm Where: Via Zoom Registration Fee: Complimentary Presenters: Ken Golkin, PMP Frank Anbari, PhD, PMP Jim Snyder, PMP Kevin Mayhew, PMP Jennifer Murter, PMP Please join us for the inaugural session of the PMI-DVC Academic Council as we present on topics designed to assist local professionals in project management working in higher education to provide support and knowledge about our profession to students interested in learning more about project management. This includes presentations on Distance Learning from Frank Anbari, PhD, PMP, Professor Emeritus at Drexel University, and Kevin Mayhew, PMP, from Penn State Abington, who will discuss how to utilize Project Management Jeopardy in the virtual classroom. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to hear one of the founders of PMI®, Jim Snyder, PMP, as he shares words of wisdom about project management. Additionally, we will be sharing information about the benefits PMI and PMI-DVC can offer attendees and their students, as well as testimonials as to what being a part of the Academic Council means to some current members. Two of the faculty members on the Academic Outreach Committee encourage you to attend and wish to share these insights about the Academic Council. “It has been an incredible experience collaborating with PMI-DVC on Academic Outreach. Since joining the Academic Outreach Committee in Fall 2019, I made connections with many PMPs working in diverse industries and academics, assisted in organizing student webinars on PM tools and real-world examples, and assisted in hosting online networking events. Joining PMI-DVC’s Academic Council can be personally and professionally rewarding as it provides exposure to innovative PM teaching strategies, opportunities to collaborate on research projects, and avenues to help project management students to achieve their academic and career goals. I highly encourage all project management faculty in the Delaware Valley area to be a part of it!” - Tejaswi Materla, PhD, Assistant Professor of Project Management, Penn State Abington. Education, training, and research are the cornerstones of any profession. Progress in these areas allows a profession to flourish and provide consequential services to individuals, organizations, and society. The Project Management Institute-Delaware Valley Chapter (PMI-DVC) has been developing its interactions with Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) in the Greater Philadelphia Area for many years, often on an informal basis. The PMI-DVC Academic Council intends to enhance these linkages and encourage further collaborations among IHLs in advancing learning in project management and sharing results of promising practices, all of which are compatible with the traditions of IHLs. Meetings of PMI-DVC Academic Council are expected to support these objectives, starting with its inaugural virtual meeting scheduled on Thursday, April 8, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. We hope that you will participate. - Frank T. Anbari, PhD, PMP Professor Emeritus, Drexel University. More information about this event can be found in the March 2021 edition of our Chapter Newsletter. We encourage ALL faculty, staff, and interested parties to register here for this FREE event. ***A copy of Project Management Jeopardy will be distributed to all attendees!*** For more information contact: Ken Golkin, PMP Academic Outreach kgolkin@pmi-dvc.org

How is DA different? When: Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Where: Via Zoom Credit: 1.5 Technical PDU Registration Fee: Complimentary - Members only event Presenter: Sanjoy Bhattacharjee In today’s ever-changing world, organizations and businesses are keen to adopt a more flexible approach to delivering projects and want to be more Agile. However, for organizations delivering projects and programs where formal project management processes already exist, the informality of many of the Agile approaches is daunting and is sometimes perceived as too risky. As a goal-driven method, Disciplined Agile provides a solid foundation for business agility so people, teams, and organizations can all benefit from straightforward guidance to streamline their processes. The fundamental advice is to start where you are, do the best you can given the situation that you face, and always strive to improve. In this session, we will learn about how DA is different from existing agile approaches, the different options, and how they guide you to your next best step. Presenter Bio: Sanjoy Bhattacharjee, Disciplined Agile Champion, Product Owner, and Lean BI/Analytics Practitioner. Agenda: 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Speaker presentation and Q&A For any additional questions, contact lgunther@pmi-dvc.org or nweiss@pmi-dvc.org.

Please join us for a PMI Delaware Valley Chapter Meeting! Topic: Leadership Challenges in a Pandemic When: Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Where: Via Zoom Credit: 2 Leadership PDUs Registration fee: Complimentary To be effective, Project Managers need to lead through influence, not authority. That is not easy under the best of conditions. 2020 and the COVID 19 pandemic threw us all into a crisis and a world of uncertainty! No one knows when it will end. No one knows what the world will look like then. And no one knows the personal impact/hardships we may have to endure personally for ourselves and/or our families. How do you lead under those circumstances??? This practical, action-oriented presentation/discussion will concentrate on three areas of focus any leader can bring to their day-to-day routines that will better enable them to keep their team(s) engaged, motivated and less stressed. We will look at how Clear Expectations, Communication and Empathy can enable you and your team to deal more effectively with uncertainty, stress and delivering your desired results. Learning Objectives: Participants will learn why leaders need to lead differently when facing a crisis and an environment of uncertainty. Participants will learn how focusing on setting clear expectations, increased communication and bringing empathy can improve their leadership effectiveness. Participants will leave with specific actions and strategies that they can immediately implement with their project teams. Speaker bio: Bill Blackburn, US Navy Commander, retired, is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, San Diego State University and the US Army War College. He was a 20-year career naval officer and aviator. Since retiring from the Navy, Bill has spent the past 25 years as a consultant/leadership coach for businesses. He spent 15 years with Gap International, a Philadelphia based breakthrough results consulting firm, and the past 10 years with Academy Leadership delivering leadership programs and executive coaching to leaders around the country. He leads their 2 and 3-day programs here locally at the Courtyard Philadelphia Airport that give participants the critical skills they need to lead through influence and become leaders people want to follow. Oh, and by the way, those programs give PMPs either 24 or 36 PDUs, dependent on the length of the program! Bill and his wife, Kristi, have been residents of the West Chester/Glen Mills area since 1992. Agenda: 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm Networking 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Speaker Presentation and Q&A 8:00 pm – 8:30 pm Breakout Boxes
