Future City Program - May 3, 2022 When: Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Where: Via Zoom Credit: 1 PDU (Leadership category) Registration fee: Complimentary Topic: Future City Program This flexible, cross-curricular educational program gives students an opportunity to do the things that engineers do – identify problems; brainstorm ideas; design solutions; test, retest and build; and share their results. This process is called the engineering design process. With this at its center, Future City is an engaging way to build students’ 21st century skills. Students participating in Future City: The students Mount Aviat School would present their City using the city presentation, then be available to answer questions about the process. As you may be aware, managing a project which is this complex is very challenging in general and especially for a group of 11-14 year old’s. They will probably also love to hear from your group and have the opportunity to ask questions about project management processes and skills they might be able to use to be more effective next year. Mount Aviat will be thrilled to attend the meeting and share our vision of our hometown reimagined - Satori. I am very proud of the team and they will enjoy another opportunity to share their work and vision. We have 35 team members, all of whom will be excited to discuss the project with you. Learning Objectives: Apply math and science concepts to real-world issues Develop writing, public speaking, problem solving, and time management skills Research and propose solutions to engineering challenges Discover different types of engineering and explore careers options Learn how their communities work and become better citizens Develop strong time management and project management skills Mount Aviat Academy is a private Catholic elementary school in the Diocese of Wilmington. Located on a beautiful 25+acre campus, Mount Aviat is well positioned to serve Preschool to 8th Grade students in MD, DE, and PA. Since 1960, the school has been run and staffed by the Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales as well as lay teachers who strive to live out the school’s Mission: to provide instruction in the message of Christ; to offer an educational environment that promotes high academic standards; and to instill the principles of scholarship, citizenship and service in students. MAA was recognized in 2014 as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and in 2016 as an Innovator in Catholic Education. https://www.mountaviat.org

PMI-DVC Agile Open House - May 17, 2022 When: Tuesday, May 17, 2022, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM Where: Via Zoom Credit: 1.5 PDUs Registration fee: Complimentary (Members only event) Sprint Planning: Wait, I thought Agile Means No Planning? Presenters: Leigh Ann Gunther, David Betancourt, & Special Guest Among the most common misnomers about Agile Frameworks are that Agile Teams don't plan and don't do documentation. One could argue that Agile Teams practicing Scrum or some hybrid therein plan incessantly and perhaps even more than Traditional Project Management. Scrum Teams plan work increments in short iterative Sprints that could range in time from four weeks to one week. Product Owners constantly plan, prune, and prioritize Backlog Artifacts, handily putting that misconception around documentation to bed. Finally, every day in the Standup Event, the Scrum Team plans what they will do that day to contribute towards making the Sprint Commitment. Planning in Scrum is so important that there is an event named after it; Sprint Planning. Scrum Teams constantly plan and refine what goes into the Sprint and what is being done to achieve the Sprint Goal. How does all of this planning coalesce into one event? What mechanics drive an efficient and effective Sprint Planning session? Join Leigh Ann Gunther and David Betancourt on Tuesday, May 17th (Zoom link will open at 6:45pm) as they outline the components and planning process for a successful Sprint Planning event. Together they will leverage their almost 40 years of combined Agile experience to deliver the theory and mechanics of Sprint Planning. Finally, Ryan McGonigle, a seasoned Agilist and Project Manager, will join in the conversation to share his experiences and help Leigh Ann and David walk the participants through a Sprint Planning Case Study.
