February 2015

Dear Fellow PMI-DVC Members,

Opportunity Knocks…Quietly. We are looking for many members to give back to their profession by becoming actively involved over the next year.  Our chapter is encouraging our entire membership to try to at least attend two (2) events this year.  By sharing your energy, talents, and stewardship, we can grow and flourish as a chapter within our community! You never know where this wonderful opportunity might take you.

Since its formation in 1979, our chapter has increased its membership to more than 2,700 members. Sixty-five (65%) of us hold a PMI® credential. Our top five industries by our membership are as follows:

  1. Information Technology

  2. Pharmaceuticals

  3. Healthcare

  4. Consulting and

  5. Financial Services

Benefits of Our Chapter

PMI-DVC offers many opportunities for both our credentialed and non-credentialed members to network with colleagues. We offer training for members and non-members to achieve and maintain their certifications by earning Professional Development Units (PDU’s), by attending our chapter events or volunteering for our chapter events.

We thank our Education Partners:

Through a 21 year partnership with Villanova University, we offer a PMI Registered Education Provider (REP), Project Management Foundations and certification preparation for Certificate Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) and Project Management Professional (PMP®). We have expanded our offerings with Temple University and University of Delaware to accommodate where members live and work. As an REP, PMI-DVC also offers corporate training tailored to your work schedules.  Last year, several companies utilized our program to develop positive professional development for their team.

For more information, please contact our Education Team.

Our Chapter Sponsor, The Judge Group has helped us to keep our finger on the pulse of the profession and they provide our members with the latest information and trends in the profession. They offer the ability to assist our members with career transition and new job opportunities.

We support and are actively involved with the PMI Educational Foundation Scholarship Program (PMIEF) and the Student Practitioner Awards.

We take this time to thank PMI Founder and Fellow Jim Snyder for continuingto be our chapter advisor. His wealth of knowledge is invaluable and has enhanced how our Board of Directors function.

Election Results

At our recent board meeting, it was my pleasure to welcome and congratulate these newly elected board members:

  • President Elect, Mike Palladino

  • Vice President – Marketing, Maria Diaz

  • Vice President – Volunteers, Lana Rudolph

We thank them for their dedicated service to the Chapter. In general, our board members started their involvement with our Chapter with simple interest in volunteering and they can attest to the rewards of giving back and the many opportunities that come to you through volunteering.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the Nomination Committee, led by former President, Kristy Baldwin. She created and developed a successful election process.  Kristy will continue to contribute and remains on the Board of Directors as Immediate Past President.

The remaining Elected Board members include:

  • Vice President – Programs, Michael Brull

  • Treasurer & Vice President – Education, Ron DeLuca

  • Secretary, AnastasiaWalsh and

  • President, Bill Hyde

Les Sheely remains our Vice President – Governance.

My thanks to everyone that placed their name on the ballot.

Our Board convened for our Annual Strategy Meeting in November 2014.  This is an all-day meeting where we look at our Vision and Mission statements to ensure that our strategic and operational goals are in alignment.

As the result of this meeting, the Strategic Objectives outlined for the next several years are:

  • Facilitate project management professional development and educational opportunities.

  • Provide opportunities to apply project management through community service projects.

  • Increase and strengthen connections and alliances with organizations, industries, and educational institutions.

  • Improve operational efficiency.

Opportunity Knocks…Quietly.  I look forward to seeing you at future PMI-DVC events and learning how you are planning to become involved and making a difference in our chapter’s success.  I guarantee that you’ll never regret more involved.  See you on February 19th, 2015 or before!!
