Members Night 2013

This is Your Night!  Connect – Learn – Win!

On a quintessentially drizzly October evening began the hustle and bustle of the annual PMI-DVC Members Night event. There was an easy flowing buffet within the main conference ballroom of the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, allowing attendees to graze at their leisure whilst perusing the various sponsor tables orbiting the outskirts of the conference hall.

Plenty of tables were stationed throughout the floor for attendees to mingle and converse with each other catching up with their colleagues old and new, as well as meeting chapter representatives and special guests including one of the original founders of PMI, James Snyder.

James was available to speak to attendees about his role throughout PMI history and display a variety of memorabilia and publications.

PMI, PMI Educational Foundation and PMI Delaware Valley Chapter were of course in full show. Nina Aiuto and Judy Brennan from PMI were available to talk about the latest PMI developments and certifications information. Diane Fromm and Gil Marder from the PMI Educational Foundation shared details about the excellent project management training programs for students and teachers that the foundation provides both locally and globally.

Other guests included Laura Burford, author of “Project Management for Flat Organizations“ and Deborah Herting, author of “The Power of Interpersonal Skills in Project Management” both highly rated recently released books available now from all major booksellers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Laura and Deborah were available throughout the night to talk to interested attendees about their research.

Once the event was in full swing and the majority of the attendees had arrived, several roving reporters weaved between the tables to compile a few opinions on what they were looking for beyond the standard all essential PDU credit. All whom were asked were gracious enough to provide their thoughts which brought up the main themes that they all tended to be existing members who were glad to visit the Radisson. Most were already certified and thus taking advantage of taking some time to relax and socialize with their PMI colleagues, interact with the sponsors, and enjoy the opportunity to network and throw their business cards into the various raffle bowls on the sponsor tables.

Sponsors had a range of generous raffle prizes that were called out through the night in a throwback to the classic bingo hall days, some of the highlights being from established PMI education alliance, Villanova University who presented their flagship prize of a complete $950 PMP prep course to lucky winner, Denise Kim Minyard. This was Denise’s first ever PMI function. Denise is a recent PMI member from Delaware who had some way to travel to make the event but was very happy to be there. “My instructor told me about the organization and what it was like to be part of it and well, it’s better than he said. I think I’ve won in a lot of ways, not just by the prize but by being a member.”

Springhouse Education presented a 2 day in-house MS Project training course worth 12 PDUs and 1 day training voucher to three lucky winners!

The Young Men In Charge and Philadelphia Business Journal presented generous prizes of rounds of golf at local country clubs. There were also several gift cards, gift baskets and Project Management books generously donated by our sponsors.

ruth-anne-2PMI Delaware Valley Chapter was pleased to present two prizes – complimentary attendance at the Professional Development Day (PDD) to Mark Dennison and a Nook HD tablet presented here to Eric Kemner by PMI-DVC president, Ruth Anne Guerrero.

Established PMI-DVC partner, the Judge Group were in full force for the evening and had several packs of golf balls and water bottles.

Bradley Digital awarded a professional profile photo session and were gracious enough to provide their photography service to capture the atmosphere through the night.

Facility host “Valley Forge Radisson” generously provided every attendee with a free casino members pass that included up to $100 worth of credits as well as awarding a stay at the hotel for two including full use of the spa and pool.

In conclusion the event was deemed another success based on the decibel level of attendees socializing to the point where they could barely hear the final prize announcements!
