PMI-DVC Chapter Meeting April 28, 2021

Please join us for a PMI Delaware Valley Chapter Meeting!

Topic: Leadership Challenges in a Pandemic
When: Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Where: Via Zoom
Credit: 2 Leadership PDUs
Registration fee: Complimentary

To be effective, Project Managers need to lead through influence, not authority. That is not easy under the best of conditions. 2020 and the COVID 19 pandemic threw us all into a crisis and a world of uncertainty! No one knows when it will end. No one knows what the world will look like then. And no one knows the personal impact/hardships we may have to endure personally for ourselves and/or our families. How do you lead under those circumstances???

This practical, action-oriented presentation/discussion will concentrate on three areas of focus any leader can bring to their day-to-day routines that will better enable them to keep their team(s) engaged, motivated and less stressed.

We will look at how Clear Expectations, Communication and Empathy can enable you and your team to deal more effectively with uncertainty, stress and delivering your desired results.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn why leaders need to lead differently when facing a crisis and an environment of uncertainty.
  2. Participants will learn how focusing on setting clear expectations, increased communication and bringing empathy can improve their leadership effectiveness.
  3. Participants will leave with specific actions and strategies that they can immediately implement with their project teams.

Speaker bio:

Bill Blackburn, US Navy Commander, retired, is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, San Diego State University and the US Army War College.  He was a 20-year career naval officer and aviator.

Since retiring from the Navy, Bill has spent the past 25 years as a consultant/leadership coach for businesses.  He spent 15 years with Gap International, a Philadelphia based breakthrough results consulting firm, and the past 10 years with Academy Leadership delivering leadership programs and executive coaching to leaders around the country.

He leads their 2 and 3-day programs here locally at the Courtyard Philadelphia Airport that give participants the critical skills they need to lead through influence and become leaders people want to follow.  Oh, and by the way, those programs give PMPs either 24 or 36 PDUs, dependent on the length of the program!

Bill and his wife, Kristi, have been residents of the West Chester/Glen Mills area since 1992.

Event Calendar Notes

The Event Calendar indicates upcoming all Chapter events for the current calendar year and beyond.

Chapter Events

It is anticipated that each PMI-DVC monthly event meeting planning process commences at least several months in advance.  For 2021 all events will be virtual unless Government Regulations permit us to hold in-person meetings.  The Virtual platform we plan to use in 2021 will be Zoom.  We intend to use features of Zoom such as Breakout Rooms and Polling during planned events. Event attendance typically ranges from to 200 to 250 attendees.  The program committee does review the various Project Management and related subjects and ensures we are not repeating a subject on a frequent basis.  The Program Committee also awards Professional development Units or PDU’s at the conclusion of each event.  The transmission of PDU’s to PMI usually occurs within 2 weeks after the meeting has concluded. We always welcome our Chapter Members comments and suggestions via a feedback survey, which is distributed at the conclusion of each event.  If a member cannot send their comments on the survey, they can send their comments directly to Frank McKeown VP Professional Development at or via cell at 917-295-9419.
