Topic: Communication Channels in Agile Frameworks
Presenters: Leigh Ann Gunther, Ryan McGonigle and Tom Welsh
"What did you say?"
"I wish I had known that sooner."
"When was this decided?"
"I didn't know that changed."
Commonly comments like these can trackback to issues in Team communication. When there are missed opportunities in relaying information, this inevitably leads to increased cost, late delivery, and scope creep. Every aspect of a project or product delivery is impacted when there is no clear communication plan. Agile environments welcome change, and with that attitude comes the need for solid communication and the team's responsibility to ensure transmission of the information occurs.
As a pillar of the Agile Manifesto, and as Agilists, we value "individuals and interactions, and we adhere to the belief that "the most efficient and effective method" of communicating is "face-to-face conversation."
Scrum events such as the Daily Standup, Sprint Demos, and Sprint Planning are constructed to decentralize information and solicit feedback loops. As a result, open forums for communication within the Scrum Team ensure that communication occurs frequently. How can teams ensure that these Events are effective and efficient within the team and that the correct information reaches upward to leadership? What mechanics drive these Scrum Events?
Join Leigh Ann Gunther and special guests Ryan McGonigle and Tom Welsh on June 23 as they explore methods for communicating within the team and communicating upwards to leadership. Join in the conversation as they share experiences that have helped build thriving Agile Teams.
1. Discuss the foundations of Agile principles, practices, and guidelines that lead to experience and how to leverage that towards professional growth and the ability to mentor.
2. Explore ways to describe how to implement Agile strategies, goals, and practices for the benefit of a professional's growth.
3. Explore with a panel of experts in Project Management and Agility how they have mentored others and how you can benefit from their experience.
