PMI Delaware Valley Chapter has an active Military Outreach Program.

Harris Snyder is the current point of contact for this effort, with support from Frank McKeown, and Jim Snyder.

The team’s primary goal is to support active duty and ex-military members who are interested in Project Management, encouraging them to get involved with PMI and get certified. A second goal is to support veterans where possible, using the team’s knowledge and experience where appropriate.

Benefits available to current and former military members include:

  • Reimbursement via the GI Bill for Certification and first year PMI corporate membership costs
  • Reimbursement via the PMI-DVC Chapter Guest Pass program for first year PMI-DVC membership cost
  • Mentoring
  • Free resume and career coaching via 3rd party service

Recent Activities:

On Oct. 4th, 2018, PMI DVC was able to continue its military outreach efforts by attending the Hire! Philly event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Hire! Philly was an employer-led coalition to help connect opportunity seekers ages 16-35 to career resources, job preparation and entrepreneurship support, and immediate job opportunities. While this event was not specifically for military active duty and veterans, the Military Outreach team felt it would be worthwhile because it was likely that some military folks would attend. In reality, close to 50 individuals (both military and civilian) stopped by. Harris Snyder, Steven Bistany  and Kendra Gudgeon supported  the event, and spent the day talking with individuals seeking information about project management  as a profession and spreading the word (verbally and with PMI brochures)  about the value of getting involved nationally and locally with PMI  and its certifications.

Future Activities:

The March 28, 2019 monthly PMI-DVC meeting will feature speakers from the Philadelphia Post of the Society of Military Engineers (SAME) and from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia Division.
