PMI Delaware Valley Chapter has an active Military Outreach Program.
Harris Snyder is the current point of contact for this effort, with support from Frank McKeown, and Jim Snyder.
The team’s primary goal is to support active duty and ex-military members who are interested in Project Management, encouraging them to get involved with PMI and get certified. A second goal is to support veterans where possible, using the team’s knowledge and experience where appropriate.
Benefits available to current and former military members include:
- Reimbursement via the GI Bill for Certification and first year PMI corporate membership costs
- Reimbursement via the PMI-DVC Chapter Guest Pass program for first year PMI-DVC membership cost
- Free resume and career coaching via 3rd party service
On August 9, 2018, PMI DVC was able to continue its outreach efforts by attending the RecruitMilitary Veteran hiring event at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. RecruitMilitary is an organization which holds hiring events for Veterans in cities around the country. RecruitMilitary arranges with companies in the geographical areas of their events to attend (75 on this day) , and signs up and advertises for walk-ins veterans seeking employment. Harris Snyder and Frank McKeown of PMI-DVC attended the event in order to assist veterans with Project Management aspirations in understanding the military benefits offered by PMI and its local chapters. 26 veterans (of a total of 209 in attendance) stopped by the PMI-DVC table to discuss their goals and learn about PMI and collect our educational materials for later review.
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) offices at Dover Air Force Base and McGuire AFB now have PMI Military benefit information from PMI-DVC for military members planning to leave the military who may be interested in project management.
If you are or know anyone recently departed from the military, or close to the end of an enlistment tour, please contact Harris Snyder to discuss this program and its benefits.
